The list also features descriptive names based on fur color and patterns. You can find nouns and adjectives that reflect a cat's physical traits. Some names draw from food, nature, and historical figures to provide different stylistic choices.

Frequently asked questions
What makes a cat name easy to recognize?
Names with high-pitched vowel sounds and sharp consonants stand out to feline ears. Short words are generally easier for animals to associate with themselves.
Are there specific naming traditions for cats?
Many people use human names or food-based nicknames. Some owners prefer mythological names that reflect a sense of mystery or strength.
How do I pick a name based on fur color?
Look for nouns related to the specific shade of the coat. For example, white cats often receive names related to snow, cream, or clouds.
Are these cat names free to use?
Yes. Use them in games, stories, campaigns or projects without credit or sign-up.
How many cat names are there?
The generator draws from all 1,206 names, and each click picks a new random batch.
Can I filter the cat names?
Yes. Open Filters above the names. You can also ask for names that start with one of 23 letters. Lengths run from 2 letters (Ra) to 20 (Princess Monster Truck), and you can pick short, medium or long names or an exact length such as 9 letters.
Can I add numbers or change how the names are written?
Yes. In Filters, Add numbers puts 1 to 4 random digits or a year at the end, at the start or on both ends, so a name becomes something like Felix17. Letters switches to lowercase or UPPERCASE. Copy and save keep the changed version.
