How to use the spin the wheel
Replace the sample names with your own entries, one per line, then press Spin or click the wheel. The pointer at the top shows the winner, and the result appears next to the wheel with a list of past spins below.
To make an entry more likely, add *2 or *3 after it. Tick Remove the winner after each spin when you are drawing a running order or giving out prizes, so nobody comes up twice. Ready lists load the 50 US states, the days of the week or the months in one step.
Full screen works well on a classroom projector or a shared screen. Copy link saves the whole wheel in the address, so you can send it or bookmark it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this as a wheel of names?
Yes. Type or paste one name per line, and each spin picks one of them. Tick Remove the winner after each spin to go through the whole group without repeats.
Is every entry equally likely?
Yes, unless you give an entry a weight. An entry marked *2 gets a slice twice as wide and comes up twice as often. The winner is chosen with your browser's cryptographic random number generator, then the wheel turns to it.
How do I save or share my wheel?
Press Copy link. Your entries and settings are stored in the part of the address after the # sign, so the link opens the same wheel for anyone. Nothing is saved on our server.
How many entries can the wheel hold?
Up to 500. With more than a few dozen the labels get small, so full screen helps.
Can I spin a wheel of US states?
Yes. Open Ready lists and choose US states (50), then spin as usual.
What is a wheel spinner used for?
To choose fairly between options: who goes first, which student answers, what to cook, who wins a prize. Every entry gets a slice and the pointer picks one.
Can I use it for an Instagram giveaway?
Yes, if you paste the names yourself. It does not read comments or followers from social media.
Do I need an app?
No. It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, and nothing is installed.
Can I put numbers on the wheel?
Yes, type them as lines. For a plain range such as 1 to 100 the Random Number Wheel sets it up for you.
Can I make a yes or no wheel?
Type Yes and No as two entries, or use the Yes or No Wheel page, which also has a Maybe option.
Does the wheel make a sound?
No, it is silent by default. With reduced motion turned on in your device settings, the spin animation is skipped.
How do I give out several prizes without repeats?
Tick Remove the winner after each spin. Each winner leaves the wheel and the next spin draws from the rest.
