About kingdom names
Strong consonants paired with long vowels provide a feeling of vast size. Many combinations blend Old English roots with Latinate suffixes such as -ia or -os. These structures create an ancient and established tone.
Longer names suggest large, sprawling empires while short names feel like rugged borderlands. You can find titles that evoke different climates through specific phonetic patterns.
How to choose kingdom names
Match the syllable count to the size of the territory. Use more syllables for grand capitals and fewer for small villages.
Consider the linguistic history of your world. Consistent endings help different regions feel like they belong to the same continent.
Frequently asked questions
How can I make a kingdom name sound more medieval?
Use archaic suffixes such as -thorp, -caster, or -bury. Incorporating natural landmarks into the title also adds a historical feel.
What style of names works best for an evil empire?
Choose harsh sounds like K, Z, and X to create a sharp tone. Avoid soft vowels if you want the nation to sound intimidating.
How do I create a sense of culture through naming?
Assign specific vowel patterns to different groups. For example, use many soft vowels for peaceful lands and guttural consonants for warrior tribes.
Are these kingdom names free to use?
Yes. Use them in games, stories, campaigns or projects without credit or sign-up.
How many kingdom names are there?
The generator draws from all 1,530 names, and each click picks a new random batch.
Can I filter the kingdom names?
Yes. Open Filters above the names. You can also ask for names that start with one of 22 letters. Lengths run from 3 letters (Nox) to 32 (The Protectorate of the Outer Marches), and you can pick short, medium or long names or an exact length such as 18 letters.
Can I add numbers or change how the names are written?
Yes. In Filters, Add numbers puts 1 to 4 random digits or a year at the end, at the start or on both ends, so a name becomes something like Stormfell17. Letters switches to lowercase or UPPERCASE, and Join words writes multi-word names as one word, with an underscore, a dot or a hyphen. Copy and save keep the changed version.
