Random Number Generator

Pick random numbers in any range, with or without repeats

Results come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How to use the random number generator

Set the lowest and highest number, choose how many you need and press Generate. Both ends of the range can come up.

Keep No repeats ticked for raffles, lottery-style draws and random samples, where each number may appear only once. Untick it to allow repeats, like rolling a die many times. Sort puts the results in order, and Copy result copies them one per line for a spreadsheet.

Frequently asked questions

Are both the lowest and highest numbers included?

Yes. A range of 1 to 10 can return any whole number from 1 to 10.

How many numbers can I generate at once?

Up to 1,000. With No repeats ticked, you cannot ask for more numbers than the range holds.

Are the numbers truly random?

They come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator, the same source used for security keys, and every number in the range has the same chance.

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. Type a negative value in From, for example −50 to 50.

How does an online random number generator work?

The page asks your browser for random values from its built-in cryptographic generator, then maps them onto your range. Every number in the range has the same chance.

Is it truly random or pseudo-random?

It is pseudo-random in the strict sense, because it comes from an algorithm. The browser source is seeded from the operating system and is designed to be unpredictable, which is enough for games, raffles and sampling.

How do I get a number from 1 to 10 or 1 to 6?

Type 1 in From and 10 or 6 in To, then press Generate. Both ends of the range can come up.

Can I pick lottery numbers with it?

Yes, set the range, ask for the count you need and keep No repeats ticked. Random picks are as likely to win as any other combination, so it does not improve your odds.

Can I get decimals?

No. The generator returns whole numbers. For a decimal, generate a larger whole number and divide it, for example 1 to 1000 divided by 10.

Can I get the same numbers again?

No. There is no seed to set, so a result cannot be repeated on purpose. Press Copy result if you want to keep a set.

Can I use it to give random numbers to a list of names?

Generate as many numbers as you have names with No repeats ticked and match them to the list. To shuffle the names directly, use the Random Team Generator or the Random Name Picker.
